Transport

  • Ended train strikes in the North East, delivering for passengers.

  • Launched new legislation to bring the UK's railways back into public ownership which will improve rail services across the North East.

Housing

  • Banned no-fault evictions and introduced new protections for renters in the North East.

  • Delivered planning reform in the North East to build the homes we need.

  • Announced ‘Homes for Heroes’ - a programme to ensure all UK Armed Forces Veterans as well as domestic abuse survivors and care leavers in the North East have a roof over their head.


Crime and Border Security

  • Kickstarted a plan to restore neighbourhood policing in the North East.

Education

  • To benefit areas including Sunderland, Keir Starmer launched a Music Opportunities Pilot that will offer disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND support to progress their musical talent and interests.

  • Started the drive to recruit 6,500 teachers nationally, improving the North East’s education system.

  • Scrapped the ban on onshore wind and unblocked solar schemes to deliver lower bills and good jobs across the North East.

Cost of living

  • Launched the Warm Homes Plan to deliver lower energy bills for the North East and lift over one million households out of fuel poverty.

  • Established the Child Poverty Taskforce, working across government departments to tackle child poverty.

  • Working to drive up Pension Credit applications across the North East.

  • Extended the Household Support Fund across the North East to support struggling households with bills and essential costs over winter.


Defence

  • Launched a new Armed Forces Commissioner who will be a strong, independent champion to improve life for UK service personnel across the North East and their families.
